I suppose I should have been doing a better job checking my milestones, because after chatting with the Mater Master this morning, I went out and checked my mater babies.
Turns out I have "36 Mater Buds"!
Which means at this very moment, I'm 9 times more likely to win this competition over the Mater Master! (Anyone still looking to make some wagers?) Now the Mater Master wants you to believe that these 36 buds just arrived today and that he's caught up with me in this little competition... but we all know that's not true. From the size and number photographed here, we know that they've been there for a while now. (Check out the bud above - it's elongated and ready to open up with a bright yellow flower any day now.)
Here's another pic, these cute, fuzzy little guys are everywhere!
In addition, my mini mater plants that were planted a week after the Super Seven also have mater buds... which proves that the Mater Master is still a week behind me... or maybe even more! (See this baby guy still in his peat pot, yeah he's got em too!) We have a FULL infestation of mater buds!
I suppose ignorance is bliss... see I wasn't really looking for them. Never grew mater plants from seed before. (Yeah, we're a little less technical up here at the Manual Mater Maker.) But then you guys knew that!
We do know what gorgeous mater babies look like though...
AND THEM IS IT!

Oh my gosh, you really do have mater buds. Well congratulations on the accomplishment. Glad I sent you a picture of a mater bud so you could see what one looked like! And then, you found some on your plants! Well very good. I'm proud of you.
BUT - before we go any further we really ought to set the record straight on this bud number thingy. You counted four buds on Rocky - yeah, because I only photographed this set of buds and only on Rocky. Didn't want to rub it in too hard! Kind'a break it to you gently! Anyway, I have lots more buds and they are on the other maters too.
So remember, the competition is not about the tallest plants and not about the most buds or even the most maters... It's about the first, red blemish free, over 9" in circumference mater. Namely Rocky Jr.
Oh and you must be using that new math stuff to arrive at 9 times the likelihood of winning this contest or read that book, "How to Lie with Statistics." You obviously didn't major in math.
So yes, nice work and all looks good up there in the city-slicker mater patch but I ain't buying no beer for you yet, certainly not based on your latest post and your mathematical calculations.
And oh yeah, Rocky told me to tell you..."This Buds for You!"
Well played Mater Master! Tell Rocky he's a real funny guy. Will look forward to taking that "Bud" from him real soon. Hahaha!
Those maters are looking mighty fine, Sher - quite the 'budding' crop. We'll see if team Mater Matic can kick it into overdrive and catch up with ya.
